rurl (resilient urban & rural landscapes) is a small design studio based in New England dedicated to crafting meaningful, personalized outdoor spaces. Grounded in a commitment to environmental stewardship, we strive to design landscapes that work in harmony with local ecological systems.
We believe that truly sustainable landscapes begin with a nuanced understanding of place. rurl seeks to craft spaces that are rooted both materially and ecologically in their surroundings—drawing inspiration from the textures, tones, and patterns of the surrounding landscape. Whenever possible, we utilize materials that come with history—local, reclaimed, and full of character.
Each project is an invitation to reimagine the relationship between people and place—crafted with care, grounded in context, and designed to endure like the landscapes that inspired them.

Aubrey grew up immersed in the woods of New England. When she wasn’t helping in her mother’s gardens, she was exploring the forest near her home, hiking nearby mountains, or traversing the coastline. These formative landscapes—wild, cultivated, and coastal—continue to shape her perspective and inspire her work every day.
She is passionate about creating spaces that are both beautiful and purposeful—places that invite connection, reflect their surroundings, and endure with grace.
Aubrey is a registered landscape architect in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Services
Phase 1. Site Visioning + Programming
Working together with the client, rurl will outline the desired outcome of the site, including programs, aesthetic preferences, and intensity of intervention. rurl will develop a schematic site plan with supporting documents to ensure the design suits the needs and desires of the client.
Phase 2. Design Development
After the approval of the schematic plan, rurl will refine the design plan with the intention of construction and work with local contractors to generate a rough cost estimate.
Construction Phase
During the construction phase, rurl is available to support the contractor on an as needed basis.

Management Plan: for homeowners planning to manage their own landscape after installation. rurl will create a high level guide for homeowners to manage their gardens and landscape.
